Gary has trained in the Martial Arts since he was 19 years old and spent 9 years studying various styles of Kung Fu including Wing Chun, Lau Gar and Tai Chi.
He began studying Jiu Jitsu in Weston-Super-Mare in 1996 under Sensei C A Sidaway 6th Dan and Ian Rossiter 4th Dan and currently holds a 2nd Dan Blackbelt under Ian Rossiter in SJJA Jiu Jitsu.
Gary studied Sambo from 2004 alongside his Jiu Jitsu. is a qualified Coach for Russian Sambo under Vadim Kolganov (master of sport) of Dynamo Sambo.
He has also had the pleasure and fortune to train with Saulo Ribeiro, Erik Paulson, Mauricio Gomes and Trojan Freefighters Groundwork Instructor Italo Ferreira
He has also been involved to a large degree in MMA throughout the South West and was a qualified and approved instructor under BAMMA (British Association of Mixed Martial Arts) and was approved as a ringside judge for Ultimate Combat and other MMA events.
The Somerset Jiu Jitsu Alliance has an active and successful MMA team coached by Gary that has several champions at Amateur level. They also compete in Submission Wrestling and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu events and hold gold, silver & bronze medals at International competitions.
Gary brings this coaching experience and expertise to Somerset Sambo and is intent on build a team alongside the SJJA club that is equally as successful.
